Hello from the CivicLab Chicago - tom@civiclab.us

The CivicLab is looking for allies and collaborators for our fight to abolish Tax Increment Financing districts (TIFs) and liberate the $1.5 BILLION sitting in Chicago's TIF accounts right now for emergency public health services and support for our hardest hit communities. See our arguments for making TIFs a social justice and racial justice issue at https://tinyurl.com/TIFs-Social-Justice. Please see http://www.endtifsnow.org for a complete set of arguments for ABOLISHING TIFs. TIFs steal property tax dollars and the #1 victim is our public school system. We know how many TIFs are stealing $ across Illinois – over 500 municipalities! This is a national scam as TIFs are in 49 states. We estimate that as many as 40,000 TIFs are stealing $20 BILLION from US public schools annually. Remember ->“T.I.F.s” = “Taking It From Schools”! We are happy to do a Zoom briefing for anyone on this call. Tom Tresser - tom@civiclab.us - This is a NATIONAL issue of civil rights, economic justice, and reparations.

Speaking of $ - A great resource for every activist and community organizer is the book “Chicago Is Not Broke. Funding the City We Deserve” that describes progressive and sustainable public revenue solutions for Chicago-> a total of $5 billion (annually)! Details and reviews at http://www.wearenotbroke.org. Here’s what Karen Lewis (may she rest in power) said about the book: “There are only a few people courageous enough to sift through the lies and tangled webs that proves Chicago isn't broke, but the politics are. Most people won't take the time to do the research, but Tom Tresser and his team have and this book should be on your list." info@civiclab.us

I'm trying to pass legislation to create a statewide Green Bank / Clean Energy Accelerator in Maine. The goal is increase investments in efficiency, clean energy and other climate solutions, by overcoming market barriers (like income or credit restrictions). There is also federal legislation that is moving forward: https://www.congress.gov/bill/117th-congress/house-bill/806/text?r=4&s=1
